business awareness workshops
These run roughly every 2 weeks for 3 hours in the afternoon and are held at WYEC's Broadway Studios. Usually there are 10-20 young people there, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The afternoon consists of a DVD presentation of young people at WYEC who have already made their businesses happen and some exercises to help you start working on your business idea. There is an opportunity to ask questions and get to know other young people who are interested in starting a business - young people who are just like you. And it's all FREE.
Basically, what the afternoon does is allow you to consider the opportunities, as well as the pitfalls, of being self-employed.
- Do you know how to go about starting and running a business?
- What is a business plan and how do you start to write one?
- Where can you get start-up money from?
- What type of premises will you need?
These are the kind of questions that WYEC’s counsellors have wide experience of and will be able to help you in answering or resolving. And remember, even if you decide that self-employment is not for you, at least your decision will be based on knowledge of precisely what is involved. Your counsellor at WYEC will support you in whatever you decide is the best way forward for you - we are not here to persuade or judge you
